Pasqualina DeAngelis, 95, of Blasdell, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday after living 3 years at the Autumn View Nursing Home, Hamburg, New York.
Pasqualina was born on October 2, 1929, in Castro dei Volsci, Italy to Lina (Chetizzi) and Francesco Marchetti who owned a small farm. As a young girl Pasqualina worked on her father’s farm tending to the animals, or out in the fields planting or harvesting crops. She learned how to knit such things as sweaters, gloves, and bed sheets.
On August 24, 1947, she married her husband, the late Filippo DeAngelis (died November 28, 2003) and started their own family with the farm that Filippo’s father Luigi DeAngelis left them. Pasqualina had two boys, the first named, Francesco (born November 20, 1948) and the second named Fiorino (born August 19, 1952).
On July 23, 1954, Pasqualina and her family emigrated to the United States on an ocean liner called La Roma which arrived at the New York Harbor. From there they took a train to Buffalo, New York, where the rest of the American family members were waiting for them.
During the next few years Pasqualina had twin girls named Anna and Lina. They were born on May 4, 1958. The family became members of Our Mother of Good Council Church, Blasdell, New York.
Pasqualina enjoyed cooking and growing her own garden vegetables. She would make homemade sauce, bread, rolls and pizzelles which the grandchildren would love. “Nonna” as she was affectionately known as, had a deep affection for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always ready to watch and take care of them. She made many new friends in the neighborhood, with her lively, and cheerful attitude.
