It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Carmen Diaz, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, godmother, and cherished friend. Carmen passed away in Buffalo, New York, on September 11, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, friendship, and memories that will live on for generations.

Born on January 6, 1959, Carmen dedicated much of her life to the people she loved and the community around her. She had a caring heart and a special way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her smile, her laughter, her strength, and her presence will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Carmen spent many years working in the Buffalo community as a property manager in senior living, where she made countless friends and touched many lives. Through her years of work, she became much more than a property manager—she became a familiar, caring, and loved presence in the lives of the residents, families, and coworkers she encountered. The friendships she made throughout those years were truly special, and she will be remembered fondly by many.

Carmen was also deeply loved by her many nieces and nephews, who will carry with them the memories and love they shared with their aunt.

Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Franco Diaz, who passed away in 2022; her mother, Leoner Benitez; her father, Jacinto Gonzalez; her beloved grandson, Quantee; and her siblings Eleanor Cotto, Maria D. Benitez, Maria M Cotto, and Francisco Gonzalez.

She leaves behind her wonderful children Carmen Sierra, Carlos Sierra, and Juan G. Diaz; her surviving siblings, Maria E. Cotto, Maria M. Gonzalez , and Luis O. Benitez; and a loving family spanning several generations.

Carmen was a devoted grandmother to Mari, Genesis, Jazzmin, Destiny, Carlos Jr., Ambilique, Isaac, and Antoinette.

Her love continued into the next generation as a great-grandmother to Anthony, Elaina, Julian, Isaiah Jr., Kalleigh, Levii, Nataanii, Nique, Caine, Aubrey, Quantee, Josiah, Analeeah, Abel, Legaci, Nakailah, A’Ymen, Dream, and A’Doniz.

She was also blessed to become a great-great-grandmother, including to Tsireya, whose life carries forward another piece of Carmen’s family legacy.

And, because Carmen’s heart had plenty of room for everyone, she was also a proud doggy grandmother to Luna and Leah Sky, who brought her their own special kind of companionship, joy, and unconditional love. 🐾❤️

Carmen leaves behind beloved family members including her son-in-law Antonio Rivera, daughter-in-law Jessica Sierra, and her beloved goddaughter Marylin, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, former coworkers, and community members whose lives she touched.

A Love That Lasted 43 Years

For 43 beautiful years, Carmen shared her life with her beloved husband, Franco Diaz. Their years together were filled with love, family, memories, challenges, laughter, and a bond that remained a cherished part of Carmen’s life until her passing.

Franco’s passing in 2022 left a tremendous void in Carmen’s heart and in the hearts of their family. Today, there is comfort in believing that Carmen has finally joined her beloved husband in the afterlife, and that the two of them are together once again.

Their love story did not end with goodbye. Their love continues through the family they built, the memories they created, and the generations who will carry their love forward.

Together again after 43 years of love.
Forever husband and wife.
Forever in each other’s hearts.

Carmen’s greatest legacy is the love she gave to her family and to everyone whose life she touched. She leaves behind not only children and grandchildren, but generations of family who will continue to speak her name, share her stories, and remember the woman she was.

Though her physical presence is no longer with us, Carmen’s love remains—in every family gathering, every memory, every story, and in every generation that carries a piece of her with them.

She is now at peace and reunited with the loved ones who went before her, especially the man who shared 43 years of life and love by her side.

Her life was a blessing.
Her memory is a treasure.
Her love is everlasting.
